WPS Boston Breakers

#24 Goalkeeper
Ashley Phillips

I am currently a member of the Boston Breakers, a Women’s Professional Soccer team and an assistant women’s soccer coach at Northeastern University.  Off the Field I enjoy coaching, attending sporting events, solving puzzles, dabbling in art and adventure travel.

WPS  I joined the Breakers as a developmental player in 2009 and am currently their starting keeper, making my debut on April 11 against the Washington Freedom in the WPS 2010 season opener.

Women's Premier Soccer League I was the starting keeper for the Boston Aztec of the Women’s Premier Soccer League in 2009, earning 7 shutouts in 10 games. The Aztecs had an undefeated regular season 9-0-1.

US National Team  I played with the US Women’s National U-16, U-17, U-19, U-21 and U23 teams where I had a chance to compete against Mexico, Scotland, Germany and England. I aspire to earn a position on the US Women’s National Team.

W-League  I spent six years playing in the W-League for the Boston Renegades (2002-06) earning the league most minutes in goal (1171) in 2004, and the Atlanta Silverbacks (2008) where we went undefeated during the regular season and I recorded 5 shutouts in 6 games.

College  As a four-year starting goalkeeper at Clemson University, SC (2004-2007), playing in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference, I currently hold the school’s record for most career saves with 326, including a single-season high of 119 in 2006 when I was named third-team All-America. I was a three-time All-Southeast region pick and three-time All-ACC selection, including first-team All-ACC in 2007. I finished my career with a 1.09 goals against average and 22 shutouts and helped lead the Tigers to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship in 2006. I graduated from Clemson with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology in December 2008.

High School  I attended Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, MA where I was the starting GK #99 at Fenwick in the Div 2 North Semi-Final  when I made my Schmeichel  goal off a corner kick in the last 2 minutes to tie the game and gain enough momentum for my team to win in overtime. I transferred to the academically prestigious Milton Academy, MA my junior year in preparation to play at a Division 1 College in the highly competitive ACC. I earned several All-America Team awards during my high school years, including the 2003 Gatorade Massachusetts High School Player of the Year, but more importantly I learned that I was a much stronger soccer player than student. Milton was a humbling academic experience, but well worth the effort. College was less intimidating for me because of my Milton experience.

Club, Travel & Youth Soccer  I was a Peabody Youth Soccer and Travel team member, as well as a club team player for Northeast Futbol and the Spirit of Massachusetts. I was subsequently selected for Mass Youth Soccer ODP, Regional and District teams, which provided an opportunity for me to advance to the Women’s US Youth National Teams.

Favorite Moments in Soccer  Earning a spot on the 2010 WPS Boston Breakers, advancing to the 2006 NCAA Elite Eight, being selected to play for the Women’s Youth US National Teams 2003-2008 and my “Schmeichel” goal in high school.

Funniest Moment in Soccer Stanford University “Streakers” during the penalty kicks in the 2006 NCAA playoff game.
